Islamabad, Marking World Children’s Day, a delegation of children from across Pakistan, nominated by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), met with President Dr. Arif Alvi at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The group, led by UNICEF’s first-ever Youth Advocate in Pakistan, sixteen-year-old Ms. Taqwa Ahmad, engaged in a meaningful discussion with the President about the various challenges and aspirations of children in the country.
According to Press Information Department, the children’s delegation represented four provinces, as well as Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. During the meeting, they brought forth issues regarding climate change, girls’ education, the challenges faced by children with disabilities, and other pressing concerns. President Alvi assured the delegation of Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing the rights and well-being of children, mentioning ongoing efforts to provide inclusive education and skillsets, especially for children with disabilities.
The President emphasized the need for inclusive education in regular schools to integrate children with disabilities into the mainstream of society. He also acknowledged the importance of equipping them with the necessary skills for employment. The children shared their personal experiences and stressed the need for creating an environment that supports their growth and development.
In a unique experience, the children also attended a hearing presided over by the President, related to the banking sector. This engagement reflects the government’s commitment to listening to the voices of the younger generation and addressing their concerns in policy-making processes.
