Islamabad, In acknowledgment of the International Day Against Breast Cancer, Dr. Arif Alvi, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, stressed the urgency of enhancing awareness about breast cancer and expanding women’s access to timely diagnosis and treatment. Breast cancer stands as the most prevalent cancer type among women worldwide. With Pakistan witnessing almost 100,000 breast cancer cases annually, leading to the demise of approximately 40,000 women, the country holds one of the highest breast cancer mortality rates in Asia.
The President pinpointed the scarcity of screening and treatment facilities in Pakistan, urging the necessity for timely detection and early-stage treatments. Highlighting a 98% potential for full recovery when detected early, he commended the media for their pivotal role over the past five years in raising awareness. The President also expressed gratitude for the uptick in early-stage reporting due to these campaigns and called on all media forms to participate actively in furthering this education.
