President Calls for Job Quotas for Disabled in Pakistan

Islamabad, President Dr. Arif Alvi has called for the immediate implementation of employment quotas for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Pakistan’s government sectors. During a meeting in Islamabad, he emphasized the importance of integrating PWDs into the workforce for their financial empowerment.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the President suggested that government departments should identify suitable jobs for PWDs and employ them based on their skills. This initiative aims to increase the participation of PWDs in the workforce and address the challenges they face in securing employment.

President Alvi highlighted that PWDs constitute approximately 12 percent of Pakistan’s population. He stressed that affirmative actions, such as job quotas, are essential for breaking down barriers to employment for this significant demographic. The President also pointed out the need to equip PWDs with employable skills and establish connections with potential employers. This strategy is geared towards providing jobs that match the nature and severity of their disabilities.

Furthermore, President Alvi underscored the importance of a shift in societal attitudes towards PWDs. He advocated for a more inclusive approach that encourages PWDs to participate actively in socio-economic activities, thereby promoting a more equitable and diverse workforce.
