Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated their commitment to advancing the rights and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities across all areas of society.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, both leaders issued separate messages on the occasion of the ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’, urging societal institutions, businesses, and civil society to help dismantle barriers and foster inclusive environments for disabled individuals.
President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s efforts in empowering Persons with Disabilities, noting the significance of the ICT Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2020. This legislation aims to enhance accessibility and provide vocational training and job opportunities, ensuring participation in various sectors such as employment, sports, and education.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the government’s initiatives to provide equal opportunities in education, employment, healthcare, and public life. He called for conscious efforts to change attitudes that perpetuate stigma and discrimination, advocating for the use of assistive technologies and inclusive infrastructure. Sharif also acknowledged the efforts of caregivers and organizations supporting disabled individuals.
