Islamabad, February 28, 2023 (PPI-OT):A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on the ongoing relief operations by Pakistan for the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria. The meeting was informed in detail about the aid sent by Pakistan for the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria. The meeting was informed that till now more than 8000 cold protection tents and more than 37000 blankets have been planted by Pakistan for the earthquake victims. About 8 to 15 tons of relief goods are being sent to the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria on a daily basis in the flights of Pakistan International Airlines.
The meeting was further informed that on February 28, 2023, a ship of Pakistan Navy is leaving for Syria and Turkey with about 1,000 tons of relief goods, including generators, dry rations, and medicines for the victims of Syria and protection against cold for the victims of Turkey. Includes tents and blankets. Apart from this, a convoy of 21 NLC trucks carrying 251 tons of relief goods has reached Malatya city of Turkey on February 25, 2023.
The meeting was also briefed about the preparation of cold protection tents by Chairman NDMA. The Prime Minister directed to complete the preparation and delivery of these tents by March 23 and send 50,000 tents to Turkey by air.
While informing the meeting about the nationwide relief campaign, it was told that the items collected at the collection centers of NDMA by various charitable and humanitarian organizations are being sent to Turkey and Syria by land and air. These include warm clothes, medicines, blankets, food items, generators, etc. The meeting was also informed about the details of the ration to be sent.
The meeting was also informed about the aid activities in Turkey and Syria by the ambassadors of Pakistan. The ambassador of Syria informed about the positive response of the aid sent by Pakistan and the donation of a relief truck and 20 million Syrian pounds by the children of Pakistan International School in Syria.
Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkey told the meeting that there is still a dire need for tents and blankets to protect against the cold in Turkey. He said that the Pakistani embassy in Turkey is in constant contact with the Turkish authorities to keep relief activities organized. The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Maryam Aurangzeb, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and Chairman NDMA Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik, ambassadors of Pakistan in Syria and Turkey and relevant senior officials.
