PPSC Clarifies Eligibility for Assistant Director Roles, Announces New Exam Syllabus

Lahore: The Public Service Commission Punjab has issued a crucial update affecting candidates who applied for the position of Assistant Director (Engineering) (BS-17) under Case No. 02-RE/2024. The update stipulates that candidates with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering are not eligible for the said posts, following a clarification from the Administrative Department.

According to Public Service Commission Punjab, the decision has led to a change in the testing process for these positions. Now, two separate tests will be organized for the posts of Assistant Director. Candidates who possess a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, although ineligible for the initially advertised posts, are given the opportunity to apply for any other positions advertised by the PPSC within the next year. This adjustment follows the commission’s policy which allows candidates to transfer their paid Treasury Challan from a withdrawn post to another application within a year if the original requisition is withdrawn post-application.

Furthermore, the Public Service Commission has also introduced a new syllabus for upcoming examinations for the positions of Assistant Director in different engineering disciplines. For the Assistant Director (Civil) position, the examination will focus 80% on topics related to Civil Engineering and 20% on general ability, which includes General Knowledge, Pakistan Studies, Current Affairs, Geography, English, Basic Mathematics, Urdu, Everyday Science, and Computer Studies.

Similarly, candidates vying for the Assistant Director (Electrical) position will be tested with 80% of the questions pertaining to Electrical Engineering and the remaining 20% assessing general ability in the same subjects as mentioned above.

This announcement is expected to significantly affect the preparation strategies of the applicants, as they will need to adjust their focus as per the new syllabus outlines provided by the commission.
