Power Tariff Reduction Target Set by Minister Leghari

Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari today announced a government initiative aimed at significantly reducing electricity tariffs by eight to ten rupees per unit in the coming months. The announcement came during a press conference where the minister detailed various strategies to decrease the cost of electricity generation across the country.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Leghari outlined the government’s current review and renegotiation of contracts with independent power producers (IPPs). He noted that revisited agreements with five IPPs are expected to save approximately four hundred and eleven billion rupees. Additionally, the establishment of the country’s first Independent System Market Operator is underway, which aims to reduce electricity prices and enhance the efficiency of the power sector.

The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the performance of power distribution companies, focusing on reducing line losses and promoting increased electricity usage during the winter months.
