Islamabad, 13 Oct 2023: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MOIB) reveals that the nationwide crackdown on power pilferage across Pakistan has escalated, not only holding individuals accountable with arrests but also retrieving billions in accumulated dues. Within a mere five-week window from September 1 to October 8, a total of 27,381 cases were registered, culminating in the arrest of 13,621 individuals and the collection of 17.67 billion rupees.
The stern legal actions unfolding against those entangled in power theft indicate the gravity with which authorities are addressing the issue of power pilferage. The nationwide movement isn’t just stopping at holding perpetrators accountable but is also focusing on recouping outstanding dues, thereby sending a clear message about the government’s stance on curbing power theft.
The number of cases registered and the subsequent legal actions indicate a firm approach to mitigating and, eventually, eliminating power pilferage in the nation. The tangible outcomes of the collected dues also reflect a stride towards financial recuperation for the power sector, which could be channeled back into enhancing and stabilizing the power grids and systems across Pakistan.
The authorities have expressed an unwavering commitment to amplifying their efforts, ensuring that these strategic initiatives persistently combat the prevalent challenge of power pilferage and uphold the integrity of the nation’s power supply.
