Power Minister Leghari Imposes Deadline to Eliminate Electricity Theft in Pakistan

Islamabad, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for Power, has issued a two-week deadline, aiming for the 23rd of this month, to eradicate power pilferage across Pakistan. This directive mandates immediate and stringent actions against electricity theft, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing this widespread issue.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Leghari has communicated directly with the CEOs and Chairmen of all Distribution Companies (DISCOs), instructing them to implement rigorous measures to halt electricity theft. He emphasized the necessity of legal amendments to ensure the accountability and punishment of individuals, including officials, found guilty of facilitating or engaging in power theft.

This initiative is part of a broader government effort to reinforce the integrity and efficiency of the national power supply, targeting illegal activities that undermine the sector’s performance and economic viability.
