Srinagar: Posters have appeared across Srinagar and other areas of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), urging residents to observe India’s Republic Day on January 26 as a “Black Day.” The posters, displayed by multiple pro-freedom groups, criticize India’s democratic claims and call for the right to self-determination for Kashmiris.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Students and Youth Forum, Jammu Kashmir Peoples League, and Freedom Lovers are among the organizations behind the posters. These messages have been placed on various public surfaces, including walls, pillars, and electricity poles.
The posters denounce the ongoing killings, arrests, and demographic changes within IIOJK, arguing that these actions contradict India’s democratic principles. They urge Kashmiris to mark January 26 as a “Black Day,” reinforcing their commitment to the struggle for freedom from India’s control.
Additionally, the posters have gained traction on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, further spreading the call for resistance. This movement reflects the enduring discontent in IIOJK regarding India’s policies and highlights the persistent demand for justice and autonomy in the region.
