Jammu, Posters urging the residents of Jammu in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir to oppose the policies of the BJP and RSS have appeared throughout the region. These posters, which have been widely distributed and shared on social media, accuse the central government of undermining local rights and altering the region’s demographics.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Jammu Dogra Liberation Front is responsible for the distribution of these posters. They serve as a public protest against what they describe as “brutal and anti-Jammu policies” enforced since August 2019. The posters claim that these policies are aimed at stripping away the rights, land, and identity of the people of Jammu by settling outsiders and manipulating government services.
The content of the posters emphasizes the alleged demographic changes being facilitated through the issuance of domicile certificates, which allow non-locals to settle in Jammu, potentially altering its cultural and ethnic makeup. The posters also highlight concerns over locals being marginalized in government jobs and resource allocation.
In a call to action, the posters encourage the people of Jammu to reclaim their state subject status and the protections previously afforded by Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution, both of which were revoked in 2019. The activists demand a restoration of these articles to safeguard their regional autonomy and identity.
The campaign reflects growing tensions in the region over policies perceived to threaten the rights and heritage of its indigenous inhabitants.
