Bhopal, July 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):A video of a police constable brutally thrashing an old man at Jabalpur railway station in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh is making rounds on social media. The police constable, identified as Anant Mishra, from Rewa district was caught on camera while beating an old man and dragging him.
In the 30-second video, the police constable can be seen kicking the elderly man in his face and punching him. The policeman then dragged the man by his feet on the railway platform, pulled him and was on the verge of throwing him on the railway track. The video that was recorded by one of the passengers inside a stationary train shows the cop repeatedly kicking the victim’s left hand.
“A video of an old man being assaulted by Constable Anant Mishra at Jabalpur railway station has gone viral on social media. When the matter was investigated, it was found that the constable Anant Mishra has been posted at police station in Rewa district. Constable Anant Mishra has been suspended,” Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Pratima Patel said.
Despite the constable constantly thrashing the elderly man multiple times at the railway station, the passengers stood as mute spectators and recorded the entire act. But no one came forward to stop the cop from thrashing the man. The video was widely shared on social media and netizens heavily criticised the police constable for his action.
“This video is from a railway station of Madhya Pradesh, A police personnel is beating an elderly man very badly, Don’t know for what reason that old man is being beaten up, how appropriate is it to beat a person of that age like this,” a social media user wrote on the microblogging platform, twitter. “Pathetic and horrible,” another Twitter user wrote.
