New Delhi: Recent findings suggest involvement of local law enforcement in the anti-Muslim riots in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, as disclosed by participants in the unrest. The turmoil, incited by a contentious death, led to the targeted destruction of Muslim property.
According to Kashmir Media Service, participants Sabori Mishra and Prem Mishra admitted their roles in the riots, revealing that police authorities deliberately withdrew, providing them a specific timeframe to execute the attacks. This facilitated assault on Muslim-owned businesses and residences, escalating to arson in several locations including a major two-wheeler showroom and a hospital.
The violence, sparked on October 14 due to the death of Ram Gopal Mishra, saw extensive damage. Rioters not only set fire to buildings but also targeted numerous vehicles, exacerbating communal tensions. Amidst these revelations, political figures have condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of exacerbating the unrest for political gains, further criticizing the party’s inability to address unemployment and societal stability.
