Islamabad: The Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms is implementing initiatives to enhance shrimp farming as part of efforts to expand aquaculture and increase exports. The plan involves transforming saline land into shrimp farming clusters, with a focus on regions in Sindh, Balochistan, and other provinces.
According to Radio Pakistan, the project aims to convert 3,500 acres of saline land into shrimp farms. In Balochistan’s coastal area, a modern multipurpose hatchery will be developed to support shrimp breeding. Additionally, a Research and Development Centre is slated for establishment in South Punjab to facilitate fisheries sector growth.
The initiative includes collaboration with the private sector to build shrimp hatcheries, feed mills, and processing facilities. The project anticipates producing 10,500 tons of export-quality aquatic products annually, generating approximately 7.8 billion rupees in foreign exchange earnings.
