Islamabad: The Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, has called for nations to prioritize investment in greening education systems to bolster climate action and resilience. Speaking at a high-level event organized by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in collaboration with Cambridge University, Alam emphasized the vital role of education in fostering sustainable development and climate action.
According to Press Information Department, Alam, addressing attendees at the COP29 global Climate Summit, highlighted the need to transform educational systems to empower students and communities for a sustainable future. She noted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change and underscored the country’s commitment to integrating climate education into its national curriculum as a means to build long-term resilience. Educational modules have been developed across all levels of schooling to enhance climate awareness and responsibility among students.
Alam also pointed out that efforts extend to training teachers and engaging communities through innovative programs, including digital learning platforms, to ensure inclusivity and accessibility. Collaboration with global institutions like ICESCO and Cambridge University has enriched Pakistan’s initiatives through knowledge exchange and technical expertise. Alam urged international stakeholders to invest in greening education to prepare future leaders for climate challenges, reiterating Pakistan’s dedication to this global vision.
