PML-N Secures Majority in National Assembly Elections

Islamabad, The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has established itself as the dominant force in the National Assembly following the latest general elections, securing a total of 75 seats. This victory positions the PML-N at the forefront of Pakistan’s political landscape, As per the unofficial results announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan for 264 out of the 266 seats.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) follows with fifty-four seats, while the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has claimed seventeen seats. Other political entities, including the Pakistan Muslim League and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) (JUI-F), have garnered four seats each, with the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and Balochistan National Party each securing two seats. Additionally, single seats have been won by Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan, Pashtoonkhwa National Awami Party-Pakistan, Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party, National Party, and PML-Z. The elections also saw a significant number of independents, with 101 securing seats across the country.

The results for one seat, NA-8, were postponed due to the death of a candidate, and re-polling has been scheduled for one constituency, NA-88, following electoral discrepancies.

In provincial assemblies, the PPP emerged as the largest party in the Sindh Assembly with eighty-four seats, and the MQM-Pakistan captured twenty-eight seats. The Punjab Assembly saw the PML-N leading with one hundred and thirty-seven seats. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ninety independents achieved victory, showcasing the diverse political preferences across the region. The Balochistan Assembly results indicate a close contest, with the PPP Parliamentarians and JUI (F) each securing eleven seats, closely followed by the PML-N with ten seats.

This election cycle reflects the complex and dynamic nature of Pakistan’s political environment, highlighting the electorate’s varied preferences across the federal and provincial levels. The PML-N’s lead in the National Assembly sets the stage for the formation of the next government, with all eyes now on the coalition-building process that will determine Pakistan’s political direction in the coming years.
