Islamabad, In the latest general elections, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has secured the majority of seats in the National Assembly, positioning itself as the leading party.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Election Commission of Pakistan’s unofficial results for 253 out of the total 265 National Assembly seats show PML-N leading with seventy-one seats. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) follows closely with fifty-four seats, while the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has secured seventeen seats. Other parties such as the Pakistan Muslim League and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (JUI-P) have won three seats each, and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party has claimed two seats. Additionally, one seat each went to Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan, Balochistan National Party, and PML-Z, with independents taking a significant portion of one hundred seats.
In the provincial assemblies, the PPP dominates the Sindh Assembly with eighty-four seats, and MQM-Pakistan trails with twenty-eight seats. The Punjab Assembly sees PML-N at the forefront with one hundred and thirty seats, and the PPP securing ten seats. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly results show a notable rise in independent victories, totaling ninety-one seats, while JUI (P) claimed seven seats, and PML-N won five.
Balochistan Assembly’s results reveal PPP Parliamentarians leading with eleven seats, closely followed by PML-N and JUI (P) with nine seats each. The Balochistan Awami Party, National Party, and Awami National Party have also made gains, alongside six independents.
The elections have set the stage for PML-N and PPP to play crucial roles in Pakistan’s future governance, reflecting a political landscape ready for change and stability. With results for three seats in the Balochistan Assembly still pending, the final composition of Pakistan’s legislative bodies will soon be completed, marking the end of a pivotal electoral process in the country.
