PML-N Criticizes Indian Supreme Court’s Decision on Article 370

Lahore, The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has strongly criticized the Indian Supreme Court’s recent judgment that upheld the Indian government’s 2019 decision to revoke Article 370, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Shehbaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and President of PML-N, in a statement and a social media post, declared the verdict of India’s top court as invalid. He asserted that the court’s decision, as well as the actions taken on August 5, 2019, were contrary to United Nations resolutions. Sharif accused the Indian judiciary of acting in a manner akin to a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, referencing similar approaches in past decisions, such as the Babri Mosque issue.

Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the commitment of PML-N to support the cause of the Kashmiri people, under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. He emphasized that the party stands in solidarity with the Kashmiris in their struggle.

Maryam Nawaz, Vice President and Chief Organizer of PML-N, also issued a statement, describing the Indian Supreme Court’s ruling as another falsehood by India. She emphasized that the decision is rejected by the Kashmiri people, Pakistan, and the international community. Maryam Nawaz labeled the court’s ruling as a criminal act that would be remembered as a dark chapter in history. She maintained that Jammu and Kashmir belong to the Kashmiris, irrespective of India’s actions.

Both leaders highlighted that all efforts by India to dominate the Kashmiris have been unsuccessful and that United Nations Security Council resolutions and international law still apply to the Kashmir dispute.
