PMIC Chairman Urges Rapid Completion of PSDP Projects in Punjab and Sindh

Islamabad, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission (PMIC), Brig. (Retd.) Muzaffar Ali Ranjha, responding to concerns raised by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, has instructed departments to expedite the completion of Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) projects in Punjab and Sindh. The Chairman’s instructions came following visits and briefings in both provinces about the progress of key development projects.

According to Press Information Department, during his November 2023 visit, Brig. Ranjha, alongside Mr. Muhammad Saleh Narejo, Director of PMIC, reviewed projects including the Kachhi Canal Project at Dera Ghazi Khan and the Nai Gaj Dam in Dadu, Sindh. In Punjab, the Chief Secretary and Irrigation Secretary assured swift resolution of issues related to the Kachhi Canal Project, which aims to irrigate 72,000 acres in Balochistan Province and has already brought monetary benefits of Rs. 3.6 Billion. The Chairman set a deadline for the project’s completion by February 2024, enabling water provision for irrigation by March 2024.

The visit to the Nai Gaj Dam in Dadu, Sindh, under the monitoring of PMIC, revealed the project’s potential to cultivate 28,800 acres and provide flood protection, water supply to Manchar Lake, fisheries development, groundwater recharge, and socio-economic upliftment. Challenges such as land acquisition and resettlement were discussed with the Chief Secretary, Revenue, and Irrigation Departments of the Government of Sindh, resulting in the Chairman issuing necessary instructions for their resolution.

The Chairman’s decisive actions are aimed at ensuring these vital projects are completed on time, thus delivering the intended benefits to the public and the agricultural sector. These steps align with the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructural and developmental needs in the country.
