Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to accelerate its relief efforts in response to ongoing flooding across the country. During a meeting held in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity for full preparedness in anticipation of potential flooding due to rising river levels.
Shehbaz Sharif underscored the importance of early warning systems and the timely evacuation of communities residing in high-risk areas. He called for the NDMA to maintain close coordination with provincial governments and their respective disaster management authorities to ensure a unified and effective response.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the urgency of accelerating the search for missing persons in flood-affected regions. The meeting included a briefing from NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, who provided an update on the current status of river flooding and ongoing relief operations.
The briefing detailed severe flood conditions at key locations such as Trimmu Barrage, Panjnad Barrage, Head Balloki, Head Sidhnai, Ganda Singh Wala, Head Sulaimanki, and Head Islam on the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers. Additionally, the Prime Minister was informed about the displacement of populations and the scale of rescue efforts currently underway.
Efforts to deliver essential aid supplies to affected areas are ongoing, with relief convoys dispatched continuously to support those impacted by the floods.
