PM Shehbaz Sharif’s reference to IIOJK unnerves ruling BJP in India

New Delhi, April 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):The inaugural speech by newly elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, in the National Assembly on Monday wherein he linked peaceful relations with India to the settlement of the Kashmir dispute has unnerved the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in India.

Coming down heavily on Shehbaz Sharif for mentioning Jammu and Kashmir as a prerequisite for restoration of normal relations with India, BJP leader Kavinder Gupta who also served as IIOJK deputy chief minister tried to overcome embarrassment behind words like “an attempt to distract attention from the internal problems faced by Pakistan.”

BJP’s Kavinder Gupta boasted, “The way in which Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raked up Kashmir is dangerous for him only. He should focus on his own country’s compulsions….” He lamented that Pakistani rulers [always] try to raise Kashmir at the UN and other forums. “This is intolerable,” he added.

In his inaugural speech after being elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif stressed, “Our government wants good relations with India, but till the issue of Kashmir is resolved peaceful relations cannot happen between India and Pakistan”. Moreover, he also decried the abrogation of Article 370 and its impact on the people of IIOJK.
