KAKUL: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a stern warning to India, declaring that any attempt to divert Pakistan’s water as per the Indus Water Treaty will be met with full force. Addressing cadets at the Pakistan Military Academy Kakul, Sharif emphasized the nation’s readiness to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Sharif underscored the commitment of Pakistan’s armed forces, describing them as capable and prepared to respond to any misadventure. He highlighted that while peace is preferred, it should not be mistaken for weakness, and the country’s dignity and security will not be compromised.
The Prime Minister asserted that water is a lifeline for Pakistan and will be protected at all costs. He also condemned terrorism in all forms, citing significant losses the nation has endured, and reiterated Pakistan’s stance against such acts.
Sharif criticized India for its ongoing exploitation and baseless accusations without credible evidence, referencing the recent incident in Pahalgam as an example of this blame game. He expressed Pakistan’s willingness to engage in neutral investigations to resolve such issues.
On the matter of Jammu and Kashmir, Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, noting the unresolved nature of the dispute despite United Nations resolutions.
Sharif also addressed the persecution of minorities in India, urging the country to take responsibility for the safety and dignity of its minority communities.
Discussing Afghanistan, Sharif expressed a desire for peaceful relations but noted the continuation of terrorist activities from Afghan soil. He emphasized Pakistan’s clear message to the interim Afghan government that such actions must cease for peaceful relations to prosper.
The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s efforts in strengthening global partnerships and advancing global peace as a UN Security Council non-permanent member. He spoke of economic recovery strides, with significant milestones in foreign investment across various sectors.
The event concluded with Sharif awarding the best cadets, in the presence of Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir.
