BAKU: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for urgent global action and coordinated efforts to prevent the melting of glaciers. He made this call while addressing a ceremony focused on glacier protection measures in Baku today. The Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with the international community to safeguard these invaluable natural resources.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the Glacier 2025 initiative as a unique opportunity to tackle the issue of melting glaciers. He described glaciers as the lifeline for the survival of mankind, noting their critical importance for global climate and water security.
Sharif further pointed out that glaciers hold seventy percent of the world’s fresh water, underscoring the importance of protecting this vital ecosystem. He also mentioned that Pakistan is home to over seven thousand glaciers, which contribute sixty to eighty percent of the Indus river flow, supporting ninety percent of the country’s agriculture.
