Muzaffarabad: In a firm declaration of solidarity, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the nation’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination, aligning with United Nations resolutions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during a special session of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly conducted via video link on Monday, Sharif recalled the historical significance of Kashmir, echoing the sentiments of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah who famously declared the region as Pakistan’s “jugular vein.” He highlighted the adverse impacts of the Indian government’s actions on August 5, 2019, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status through the revocation of Articles 370 and 35-A.
The Prime Minister condemned the subsequent illegal settlements and the dire consequences these have had on the Kashmiri populace. He expressed confidence that the Kashmiris would soon achieve independence and emphasized Pakistan’s role in supporting their cause through persistent diplomatic, political, and moral advocacy.
Sharif also addressed the continuous human rights violations by Indian forces in the region, stating that despite the challenges, the spirit of the Kashmiri people remains unbroken. He paid tribute to both the local leadership in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the broader Kashmiri leadership who endure immense hardships under Indian occupation.
The Prime Minister’s speech underscored Pakistan’s commitment to highlighting the Kashmir issue globally and supporting the Kashmiri right to self-determination as prescribed by international law.
