PM Shehbaz Sharif Orders Finalization of E-Vehicles Policy by November

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the finalization of the E-Vehicles policy by November, following consultations with all federating units and stakeholders. The directive was issued during a meeting in Islamabad where Sharif emphasized the need for a comprehensive financial model and enhanced licensing regulations for electric vehicle manufacturing.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of electric vehicles in reducing dependency on imported fuels and their environmental benefits. He announced a plan to provide E-motorbikes to outstanding students of government schools, mirroring the existing laptop scheme.

The meeting also addressed the progress in local electric vehicle production, noting that 49 licenses had been issued for two and three-wheeled vehicles since 2022, with 25 factories now operational. The first license for domestic production of four-wheel electric vehicles was granted in September, with the first locally manufactured car expected by December.

Additionally, Sharif instructed the Capital Development Authority to develop a plan for electric-powered public transport in Islamabad. The priority establishment of recharging stations for electric vehicles was also discussed.
