PM Shehbaz Sharif Hails 26th Constitutional Amendment as a Milestone for Pakistan


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared the recently passed 26th Constitutional Amendment a pivotal step for Pakistan’s political and economic stability and development. During a federal cabinet meeting, he emphasized that the amendment, which passed with a two-thirds majority in parliament, will enhance legal proceedings and promote the vision of the Charter of Democracy.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister elaborated on the amendment’s significance in establishing constitutional benches designed to expedite justice, reflecting a broad consensus among political parties, including the opposition. He commended various government bodies and armed forces for their role in successfully hosting the SCO heads of government meeting, enhancing Pakistan’s international stature.



Additionally, Prime Minister Sharif addressed other national and international concerns, including the economic situation in Pakistan, with a reported decrease in inflation and policy rates. He also voiced serious concerns over the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, calling for an immediate ceasefire and announcing a humanitarian aid program.



The cabinet meeting concluded with several approvals, including the forwarding of the “Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill, 2024” for further legislative processing and the restructuring of the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, aiming to strengthen legal and health governance frameworks within the country.
