Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his vocal support of Pakistan during escalating tensions in South Asia, as well as Erdogan’s calls for peace in the region.
In a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Irfan Neziroglu, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the historic and brotherly relations between the two nations, which he said were reflected in Turkey’s support.
The Prime Minister addressed the recent Pahalgam incident, stating that despite India’s provocative actions, Pakistan had responded in a responsible manner. Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s consistent condemnation of terrorism in all forms.
He pointed out Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in its fight against terrorism, noting the human and economic toll the country has endured. According to Sharif, India’s recent actions threaten to distract Pakistan from its counter-terrorism efforts.
The Prime Minister criticized India for failing to provide evidence linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam incident and reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to support a credible international investigation into the matter. He welcomed the potential involvement of Turkey in such an inquiry.
Sharif reaffirmed his government’s commitment to economic recovery and growth, emphasizing the need for peace and security in the region to achieve these goals.
During the meeting, Ambassador Neziroglu conveyed Turkey’s appreciation for Pakistan’s stance and expressed solidarity. He called for restraint and de-escalation to maintain peace in South Asia, underscoring Turkey’s support for diplomatic solutions.
