PM Sharif Touts Huawei Partnership for IT Training and Smart City Initiatives


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with a delegation from Huawei Pakistan, led by CEO Ethan Sun, to discuss collaborations on the Islamabad Smart City project and IT youth training. The talks highlighted Huawei’s proposals to integrate advanced digital services into various sectors and establish a National Data Centre aligned with Pakistan’s cloud strategy.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting detailed Huawei’s commitment to support the digitalization of Islamabad with services in traffic, health, education, and other sectors via a digital platform. The establishment of a National Data Centre was also discussed, which would enhance cloud services and contribute to saving foreign exchange for Pakistan.



Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the significant outcomes of his recent visit to Huawei’s headquarters, noting the importance of partnership in providing modern IT training to Pakistani youth. He outlined a vision for boosting IT exports through the professional training of 300,000 students annually, with a focus on including women and youth from Balochistan as priority participants.



The Prime Minister reaffirmed his government’s dedication to fostering a sustainable collaboration with Huawei to promote the digital economy in Pakistan. He stressed the need for digitizing government institutions to ensure efficient, modern governance, and mentioned that a Massive Open Online Courses System is prepared to begin training in the IT sector in cooperation with provincial governments.
