Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called upon the electronic media to bolster the government’s efforts in reviving the economy and ensuring the development and prosperity of Pakistan. This appeal was made during a meeting with a delegation from the Pakistan Broadcasters Association, which included notable figures such as Shakeel Masood, Mir Ibrahim, Mian Amir Mahmood, and Sultan Lakhani.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of media as the fourth pillar of democracy, emphasizing its responsibility in protecting media personnel, combating fake news, and contributing to the societal, mental, and ideological development of the Pakistani people. He highlighted the media’s indispensable role in democracy’s strength and stability through objective reporting.
Shehbaz Sharif candidly shared the challenges his administration faces, particularly in economic recovery, branding it as the paramount obstacle for the government. In addressing the economic hurdles, the Prime Minister disclosed ongoing efforts towards the privatization of unprofitable state enterprises, instituting reforms, and fostering both domestic and international investment, coupled with a stringent austerity program. He also mentioned the formation of a committee dedicated to reducing government expenditure, which is poised to present its findings shortly.
The Prime Minister further revealed measures for economic improvement, including the hiring of international experts for the Federal Board of Revenue’s complete digitization and plans to officially recognize leading taxpayers, exporters, and women entrepreneurs for their contributions. Highlighting the government’s commitment to austerity, he noted that the federal cabinet has voluntarily relinquished salaries and other benefits.
The delegation from the Pakistan Broadcasters Association extended congratulations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his assumption of office and expressed their good wishes for his tenure. The meeting delineates the government’s recognition of the media’s critical role in navigating through Pakistan’s current economic and democratic challenges.
