PM Sharif Leads Emergency Meeting in Response to Besham Attack on Chinese Nationals


Islamabad, In a crucial emergency meeting convened by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif following the terrorist attack on Chinese nationals in Besham, key governmental and military leaders united to address the tragic incident and its implications for Pakistan-China relations. The attack targeted civilians working on the Dassu Hydel Power Project, a vital initiative for Pakistan’s energy and water security. The meeting saw the participation of Federal Ministers, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), provincial Chief Ministers, Chief Secretaries, and Inspector Generals of Police.



According to Press Information Department, Prime Minister Sharif extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and assured swift justice against the perpetrators of this heinous act. He highlighted the strong bond between Pakistan and China, expressing the nation’s collective grief over the loss and praising the quick response of Law Enforcement Agencies and local citizens, which saved many lives.



A key outcome of the meeting was the Prime Minister’s directive for a comprehensive joint investigation, emphasizing terrorism as a cross-border threat aimed at undermining Pakistan’s progress and the strong bilateral ties with China. The participants unanimously pledged to eradicate terrorism from the country, calling for a regional strategy to counter terrorist sanctuaries across borders.



The COAS, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, reaffirmed the military’s determination to combat terrorism, referencing Pakistan’s two-decade-long struggle against terror and vowing to protect all foreign nationals in Pakistan, especially Chinese contributors to national development. The meeting concluded with a reinforced commitment to leveraging all state resources in the fight against terrorism, signaling a unified stance against threats to national and regional security.
