PM Prioritizes Development of Gilgit-Baltistan with New University Project.


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared the development of Gilgit-Baltistan and the welfare of its people as top priorities for the government. He made this announcement while addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ramday University held in Islamabad.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ramday University will be established in the Thagas area of Ghanche district in Gilgit-Baltistan. The university will operate under the Ramday Trust, with its construction supported by overseas Pakistanis and various individuals from across the country. The Prime Minister congratulated Justice retired Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday and his collaborators for their efforts in setting up the university and commended all contributing institutions and individuals.



Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of establishing a higher education institution in the remote area of Ghanche, expressing confidence that the university, located at an altitude of 11,000 feet, will excel in modern sciences and research. He also acknowledged the private sector’s contribution to advancing education in Pakistan, noting that graduates from private institutions have brought pride to the nation in various fields.



Highlighting federal efforts, the Prime Minister mentioned that 62 flood-affected families in Gilgit-Baltistan were provided housing during his recent visit to the region. Additionally, a 100-megawatt solar power project has been initiated to address the area’s electricity needs. Shehbaz Sharif also announced the Gilgit-Baltistan Education Endowment Fund, aimed at supporting talented and deserving students to enable them to contribute significantly to Pakistan’s development.



Justice retired Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday provided details about the university, stating that it will be established on 200 kanals of land in Thagas, District Ghanche. The university will be among the highest-altitude institutions globally, offering education in subjects such as environmental and climate change, hydrology, and minerals.
