Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Army Chief, and other key stakeholders have reached a consensus on the approach to combat terrorism in the country. Naqvi made the statement during the second meeting of the counter-terrorism committee, where he evaluated the progress in enhancing the capacity of provincial counter-terrorism departments.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Federal Secretary of Interior, as well as senior officials from the Federal Investigation Agency, the Directorate General of Passport, and the National Counter Terrorism Authority. Representatives from other security agencies were also present.
Naqvi emphasized that decisions would not be made without consulting provincial authorities. He assured that comprehensive support would be extended to provinces, particularly addressing the challenges faced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He also noted that the counter-terrorism wing of the FIA would be fully operationalized at the federal level.
The committee reviewed the progress on setting up national and provincial intelligence fusion and threat assessment centers, and approved the establishment of these centers. Naqvi mentioned that the frontier constabulary would be transformed into a national reserve police force.
