PM Kakar Assures Peaceful Power Transfer in Upcoming February 8 Elections in Pakistan

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar has affirmed that the people of Pakistan will exercise their democratic right to elect representatives on the 8th of next month, with the caretaker government ensuring a peaceful transition of power.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in a discussion with a private news channel, Prime Minister Kakar expressed his conviction in the gradual progression of democracy in Pakistan, drawing parallels with the democratic evolution witnessed in Europe. He emphasized the need for a democratic government to enhance governance and earn the moral support of the Pakistani people through performance and integrity.

Kakar highlighted the interim government’s proactive measures towards national development, specifically mentioning the Special Investment Facilitation Council’s role in aiding informed economic decision-making. Addressing the issues in Balochistan, he suggested that resolving conflicts would require militants to disarm, respecting the sanctity of the state, which he deemed paramount over individual interests.

The Prime Minister also reflected on the sacrifices made in the war against terrorism, underscoring the urgent need for reforms in the criminal justice system. He noted the tragic loss of over 90,000 citizens in this conflict, contrasting it with the minimal number of convictions in the courts, thereby stressing the importance of judicial reforms in the context of terrorism.
