Islamabad, 16 Oct 2023: Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has reached China to partake in the ‘3rd Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation’ on an invitation from China’s President Xi Jinping. Welcomed by officials from both China and Pakistan, including Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Moin-ul-Haq, the Prime Minister’s schedule is packed. He is set to address a High-Level Forum on the theme ‘Connectivity in an Open Global Economy’ on 18 October 2023. Further, bilateral meetings with key Chinese officials including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang are on the agenda.
Topics expected to dominate the discussions include enhancing trade and economic ties. Additionally, Prime Minister Kakar has scheduled meetings with leaders from other BRF participant nations and will engage with top Chinese entrepreneurs. To continue fostering regional ties, the Prime Minister will also visit Urumqi in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China, engaging with local leaders and delivering an address at Xinjiang University. This visit is significant as it coincides with the decade-long celebration of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a pillar of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
