Planning Committee Criticizes Delay in M-6 Motorway Project Execution

Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Special Initiatives expressed concerns regarding delays in the execution of the M-6 Motorway project, emphasizing the need for immediate action. Chaired by Senator Quratulain Marri, the committee reviewed funding for development projects and highlighted the M-6 Motorway as a national priority requiring urgent attention.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has achieved several milestones, including securing financing from the Islamic Development Bank and OPEC Board for sections of the motorway. Despite these advancements, the committee noted dissatisfaction over the lack of progress, particularly for Sections I and II, which are under the Public-Private Partnership model and face a heavy traffic burden. The committee recommended reallocating funds from the National Highway Authority’s Public Sector Development Programme to expedite the project. To resolve outstanding issues, a joint meeting with the Senate Standing Committee on Communications is planned.
