Islamabad: Minister for Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada has underscored the critical importance of sustainable water management strategies, including rainwater harvesting, to address the escalating challenges of climate change. In a discussion with environmentalist and social activist Shahdia Kausar Farooq, Pirzada highlighted Pakistan’s increasing vulnerability to climate-related disasters such as floods, heavy rainfall, and recurring droughts, which threaten communities and food security.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister emphasized the necessity of accelerating water conservation efforts and restoring declining groundwater levels, along with the efficient use of existing water resources. Pirzada announced the installation of rainwater harvesting systems on the rooftops of major buildings under the Ministry of Housing and Works, aiming to bolster water conservation efforts and enhance the nation’s climate resilience.
