Petitioners Consider Review Petition in Indian Supreme Court on Article 370 Decision

Srinagar, In the wake of the Indian Supreme Court’s recent verdict upholding the abrogation of Article 370, petitioners challenging the decision are contemplating filing a review petition.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Supreme Court on December 11 affirmed the Narendra Modi-led government’s controversial move to revoke Article 370, which had previously granted special status to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, the spokesperson for the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) and a senior leader of the Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M), stated in an interview in Srinagar that discussions are ongoing among the petitioners and their supporters to lodge a review petition against the Court’s ruling.

Tarigami emphasized the need for justice and urged the apex court to reconsider its decision, describing the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status as an assault on the people of the region. He mentioned that after consultations with legal experts, there seems to be a basis for a review petition in the Supreme Court.

The decision to contemplate a review petition indicates continued resistance to the Indian government’s decision on Article 370 and highlights the ongoing legal and political struggle over the status of Jammu and Kashmir.
