Peshawar, Recent discussions between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Secretary of Livestock, Fisheries, and Cooperative Department, Dr. Anbar Ali Khan, and the head of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in the region, Farrukh Tayroof, have set the stage for significant advancements in the province’s agricultural sectors.
According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the meeting focused on ongoing and upcoming FAO projects aimed at enhancing the livestock and fisheries sectors. The Director General of Livestock and Dairy Development, Dr. Asal Khan, also present, received updates on initiatives like the Livestock Farmers Field Schools, which aim to improve dairy production and market connectivity for small-scale farmers. Farrukh highlighted the importance of modernizing the dairy sector for better productivity and income, emphasizing the role of FAO’s training and development schemes in achieving these goals.
The discussion also covered the integration of fish farming enhancements to boost overall economic development in the province through improved practices and technologies. These efforts are anticipated to increase the local availability of milk and meet the growing demand in the region, thus supporting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s food security and economic growth.
