We welcome the statement made by honourable High Commissioner on the Human Rights situations around the globe. I have the honor to admit before this house that despite adversities the High Commissioner in the year 2018 and 2019 submitted two reports before this council and asked this house to constitute commission of enquiry to look into the human rights violations perpetrated against the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr. President!
The high commissioner in his statement before this house said and I quote, “In recent months, I have had the opportunity to discuss the worrying human rights situation in Kashmir with both India and Pakistan. Progress on human rights, and justice for the past, will be key to advancing security and development. I will continue to explore how my Office can assist, including through meaningful access to the region” Unquote.
This unambiguous statement by the High Commissioner for human rights before this house has sent a strong message to the people of Indian Administered Jammu and Kashmir who have given unprecedented sacrifices for their right to self-determination and are victims of state repression for the last three decades are being taken serious, and has also conveyed a message to perpetrators of human rights violation that they cannot go scot-free for their wrongdoings and have to face the music of justice at any time.
