PeH Hosts Photo Exhibition to Advocate for Kashmiri Detainees’ Release

Muzaffarabad: A photo exhibition advocating for the release of Kashmiri detainees was organized by Pasban-e-Hurriyat (PeH) outside the Central Press Club in Muzaffarabad. The exhibition displayed images of 60 Kashmiri prisoners who have been held in Indian jails for extended periods.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the event was attended by leaders from political and religious parties, representatives of lawyers’ and business associations, journalist organizations, civil society members, and numerous citizens. The exhibition highlighted the plight of those detained in the context of the political decisions made on August 5, 2019, in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

Pasban-e-Hurriyat Chairman Uzair Ahmad Ghazali, along with other Kashmiri leaders, emphasized that the Modi regime had detained over 19,000 citizens from various regions of Jammu and Kashmir before the aforementioned date. While some detainees were released after paying bribes, more than 4,200 remain incarcerated, demanding self-determination and human rights. Concerns were raised about conspiracies to impose a death sentence on Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik.

The leaders accused the Indian government of employing incarceration, extrajudicial executions, and family harassment as tactics against Kashmiris. They named several prominent Kashmiri figures, including Musarat Alam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and others, as being imprisoned across India and the region. Attendees of the protest camp called on international human rights organizations, such as the United Nations and Amnesty International, to secure the release of Kashmiri prisoners.
