Srinagar, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of exploiting the land and resources of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for the benefit of its cronies, using its majority in Parliament to enforce laws that disempower the people of the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the PDP’s statement was in response to the Indian Supreme Court’s ruling against the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. In its monthly newsletter SPEAK UP, the PDP criticized the BJP’s actions, questioning what the party has done for the region since coming to power in 2014.
The PDP expressed grief over the Supreme Court’s decision on Article 370, which had granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Responding to Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks in Parliament about the ‘blunders’ of Jawaharlal Nehru’s Kashmir policy, the PDP highlighted the BJP’s failure to positively impact IIOJK since 2014 and likened expecting solutions from the BJP to “a bug asking the spider for its freedom.”
The party also raised concerns about the environmental impact of lithium extraction in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that it would cause ecological damage without benefiting local residents.
This statement from the PDP reflects ongoing tensions and disagreements over the political handling and resource management of Jammu and Kashmir, further highlighting the complex dynamics of the region’s status and governance.
