PDO Board Approves Key Reforms and Transmission Line Project in Azad Kashmir

Muzaffarabad: The Azad Kashmir Power Development Organization (PDO) board meeting, led by Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, approved significant organizational reforms and the initiation of a new transmission line project from Jagran to Noseri. The meeting, which included top officials of the PDO and other governmental departments, focused on enhancing the efficiency and operational capabilities of the organization.

According to Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the board meeting saw the participation of key figures including the Minister of PDO, Chaudhry Muhammad Rashid, Chief Secretary Daud Muhammad Bareech, and other senior officials. The Secretary of Electricity, Irshad Ahmed Qureshi, attended the meeting via video link, indicating the high priority of the matters discussed.

The board granted conditional approval for the disbursement of salaries to PDO employees and established a Reform Committee to evaluate and propose enhancements to the organization’s structure and financial management. This committee, led by Additional Chief Secretary for Development Atif Rahman, includes members such as the Secretary of Finance Islam Zaib and the Managing Director of PDO. They are tasked with presenting their findings within two weeks.

Furthermore, the meeting underscored the strategic importance of the hydropower sector, with Prime Minister Haq emphasizing the government’s commitment to accelerating hydropower projects. The approval of the PC-1 for the construction of the transmission line from Jagran to Noseri is a step towards improving the electricity infrastructure, which is crucial for the region’s development and economic sustainability.

This series of approvals and the formation of the new committee reflect the government’s proactive approach in addressing the operational challenges faced by PDO and ensuring the timely provision of electricity to the public while boosting revenue through enhanced hydropower facilities.
