PDMA Sindh Reports Progress in Managing Heatwave Crisis

Karachi: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has released an update on its ongoing efforts to manage the severe heatwave affecting the region, detailing actions taken from May 21 to July 27, 2024.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, the PDMA and District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) are actively monitoring the situation through the Heatwave Response Plan. Coordination is being maintained with District Emergency Operation Centres and various humanitarian partners to enhance the efficacy of the response. A total of 294 heat stabilization camps have been established across various districts with the assistance of 40 humanitarian partners.

These partners have also been involved in conducting awareness sessions on the impacts of heatwaves, distributing educational materials, and utilizing media channels to increase public awareness. Additionally, efforts to provide safe transportation for patients from camps to Heat Stroke Centers and hospitals are underway.

In a proactive step towards long-term environmental benefits and heat mitigation, Deputy Commissioners and Chairmen of DDMAs have initiated a plantation drive in some districts. Regular visits to the heat stabilization camps by dedicated teams are ensuring that the needs of affected individuals are being promptly addressed.
