Karachi: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has issued an update on the ongoing efforts to manage the 2024 heatwave, highlighting progress in the establishment of heat stabilization camps and coordination with humanitarian partners.
According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, from May 21 to July 10, 294 heat stabilization camps have been set up across various districts with the support of 40 humanitarian partners. These camps are part of a broader Heatwave Response Plan, which also includes awareness sessions on heatwave impacts, distribution of educational materials, and active involvement of local media to enhance public understanding and safety. Deputy Commissioners and Chairmen of District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have been actively visiting these camps, ensuring effective implementation and support.
Further, the PDMA has initiated a plantation drive in some districts to mitigate environmental heat and support ecological stability. The efforts also extend to safe transportation and referral of patients from camps to designated Heat Stroke Centers and hospitals, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to emergency management.
