Islamabad: The Privatisation Commission Board has taken significant steps to further privatisation efforts in the power, aviation, and financial sectors, approving measures aimed at expediting ongoing transactions. The Board’s meeting, helmed by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation Muhammad Ali, underscored the government’s commitment to attracting investment and enhancing service delivery.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Board has pre-qualified nine interested parties for the privatisation of Gujranwala Electric Power Company. The list of pre-qualified parties includes three Turkish energy firms, as well as prominent Pakistani business groups and investment consortia, indicating sustained interest from both domestic and international investors in Pakistan’s electricity distribution sector.
In the aviation sector, the Board addressed the restructuring of the Negotiation Committee responsible for the outsourcing and concession of major airports, including Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, and Islamabad International Airport.
The Board also evaluated the progress of crucial financial-sector transactions. It instructed the transaction advisers to accelerate the privatisation process for the House Building Finance Company Limited and Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited, aiming for a timely completion of these transactions.
The Board reiterated its pledge to promote the government’s privatisation agenda through transparent, competitive, and professionally conducted transactions, focusing on attracting credible investment, enhancing efficiency, and maximizing value for both the government and the citizens of Pakistan.
