Srinagar: Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, a senior leader of the People’s Democratic Party and a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Pulwama, has raised concerns about the reservation policy in the recruitment process for lecturer posts in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Parra criticized the current distribution of lecturer positions, where out of 575 posts, only 238 are allocated for open merit candidates, while 337 are reserved. He suggests that this distribution could be exploited by New Delhi through its powerful lieutenant governor in the region.
Parra’s statement highlights his belief that the policy is disproportionately skewed and unfair. He has urged a review of the reservation policy to ensure it reflects population proportions. Using the social media platform X, Parra expressed his dissatisfaction with the current reservation system, stating, “Another day, another shocker! Out of 575 lecturer posts referred to PSC for recruitment, only 238 are for open merit students, while 337 are reserved. This injustice needs to stop!”
Parra also questioned the continuation of the policy, introduced under the Modi-led Indian government, by the current National Conference-led administration. He called upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to overhaul the reservation policy to align it more closely with population demographics, urging for fairness and equitable opportunities for all candidates.
