Parliament House Building Audit Imperative to Assess Environmental Impact: NA Deputy Speaker

Islamabad, July 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri chaired the 10th meeting of the Standing Committee on House and Library of the National Assembly in Parliament House today. While deliberating upon the Starred Question raised by MNA Syed Agha Rafiullah regarding conducting the Environmental Audit of Parliament Building, Deputy Speaker NA remarked that master plan of the building need to be revived to assess its environmental impact. He also said that master plan of this building was prepared in 1985 and still this is catering the requirements of increasing number of Members and increasing strengthen of Parliamentary staff. He remarked that complete audit of the building is imperative to upgrade it as per future needs.

The committee applauded the performance of CDA to bring visible improvement to the infra-structural development in Islamabad. The committee also unanimously appreciated the improvement in the progress of newly constructed 104 family suites and 500 servants Quarter as Chairman CDA briefed the committee about separating the issues of previous contract issues and starting work again. CDA Chairman also briefed the committee about issues of Janitorial services and said that contract of Janitorial service would not be renewed till the directions of the committee. The committee decided to look into matter of the provision of janitorial services whether it is under the supervision of CDA or National Assembly Secretariat.

Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri directed the CDA to collaborate with SNGPL and IESCO to recover the pending dues/ bills and using all means to recover these bills from Ex-MNAs. He said that this is public money and no one should be allowed it to forgo it. The issues regarding upgrading the facilities of provision of basic health services at Disperancy of Parliament Lodges were also deliberated upon in detail.

Deputy Speaker directed National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination Committee to ensure provision of the basic Health facilities at Parliament lodges immediately. The committee also instructed the NTC and PTCL to improve their Internet services at Parliament Lodges and MNA hostel. Deputy Speaker also directed to ensure vaccination of all staff at the Parliament lodges.

The issues of National Assembly Secretariat Employees Cooperative Housing Society (NASECHS) were discussed in detail. Administrator FECHS briefed that the matter of dissolution of Management committee of FECHS is in High Court. Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri issued instruction to the administrator for resolving the matter of Lay out Plan (LOP) of NASECHS. Chairman CDA assured the committee to complete the process of approval LOPS of NASECHS within one week after fulfilling legal formalities.
