Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani emphasized the significance of tourism as a key driver of economic diversification during a meeting with the Malam Jabba International Advisory Board at the Parliament House. The discussion focused on strategies for sustainable development of Pakistan’s tourism sector, highlighting its role in job creation and international engagement.
The meeting, attended by prominent figures including Lord Amir Sarfaraz of Kensington and General Patrick Sander, underscored the importance of the Malam Jabba project as a model for integrating natural beauty with sustainable tourism practices. Chairman Gilani lauded the project for its ability to generate employment and boost local economies.
Chairman Gilani noted a significant rise in international tourist arrivals in Pakistan, indicating growing confidence in the sector. He called for improvements in infrastructure and service quality to further enhance the country’s appeal to global travelers.
The Chairman also invited UK investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan, highlighting the Special Investment Facilitation Council’s role in supporting foreign investment. Senator Sherry Rehman, also present at the meeting, stressed tourism’s role in fostering cultural understanding.
In addition, Ambassador Ms. Misbah Khar announced Chairman Gilani’s election as the founding Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, which will convene in November 2025, focusing on peace, security, and development.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthening institutional linkages and practical cooperation to position tourism as a pivotal economic sector for Pakistan.
