Pakistan’s Science Committee Endorses Amendment to National University of Technology Act


Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology has endorsed the “National University of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2024,” signaling a pivotal advancement in the nation’s technological education framework.



According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee’s second meeting took place today at the Ministry of Science and Technology in Islamabad, chaired by Mr. Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, MNA. The session focused on the current state and challenges of the Ministry’s numerous research and development organizations, including an urgent briefing on the Pakistan Council for Renewable Energy Technologies’ risk of closure due to human resource shortages and low productivity.



The committee also reviewed the budget allocations for 2024-2025, highlighting significant funding directed towards enhancing scientific research and technology transfer capabilities, with the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research receiving the largest portion. The assembly further discussed the critical role of various science and technology universities and promotion organizations in fostering innovation and commercialization.
