Pakistan’s Remittances Surge to $3 Billion in March, Reflecting Strong Growth

Karachi, Pakistan has witnessed a significant increase in overseas workers’ remittances, reaching three billion dollars in March 2024, as reported by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). This surge represents a substantial growth both on a monthly and yearly basis, underscoring the robust contributions of the Pakistani diaspora to the national economy.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, remittances in March saw a 31.3 percent increase from the previous month and a 16.4 percent rise compared to the same month last year. Overall, the country has received about 21 billion dollars in workers’ remittances during the first nine months of the fiscal year 2023-24, slightly above the 20.8 billion dollars recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The main contributors to this upward trend in remittances are Pakistani expatriates in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. This financial inflow is crucial for Pakistan’s economy, providing essential support to its balance of payments and contributing to the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
